Popular Star Reveals Diagnosis

David Cassidy has been a presence seen in countless households for nearly fifty years thanks to the television show, The Partridge Family. After spending the time to come to terms with his diagnosis of dementia, he decided to publically reveal that he has been living with the same disease that took his mother’s life about five years ago. At age 66, Cassidy has been in the news recently due to struggles with alcoholism and financial distress. He has been arrested multiple times for driving under the influence.

In early 2017, a fan video was released on the internet featuring Cassidy struggling to remember the words to his own songs while performing a concert. After several media outlets disseminated this video, rumors spread of Cassidy’s worsening alcoholism.  Cassidy decided to dispel these rumors by speaking publically about his dementia diagnosis. While long-term memory is not immediately impacted by dementia, memory loss is a prevalent symptom. Even though Cassidy has been performing his music for years, it is possible for his dementia to impact his ability to recall song lyrics and melodies. This was a very sad revelation for fans and those affected by dementia.

Cassidy has been open about his family’s history with the disease and his experiences with his loved ones.
